Housing Runner Ducks any advice?
« on: April 08, 2008, 09:08 »
Hi am really excited now have my broodies, and have ordered some Indian runner ducks eggs. Have a huge pond which wont be finished for a month or so but will use an old sink or water feature initially anyway.
What size duck house would I need for about 4 indian runners? Many thanks!

The ducks will only be in there locked away safely at night, so 5ft by 4 ft would be adequate :D You will need a nice gently sloping ramp upto the duck house with a wide doorway to avoid jostling.

Don't let your future ducklings anywhere near the water until they are fully feathered.

thanks bodger! checked on broody this morning and she has been nice and tight for a few days and has made a lovely comfy nest so will move the whole thing to her broody house tonight  :D  I will keep them all in the babies run while they are feathering up.

Someone who used a banty hen to hatch runner ducks was just telling me about how the hen was trying to teach the ducklings to perch and how when the ducklings went in water she would be at the side going mental trying to get them out in case they drowned!! Bless
