I am looking for hen which is likely to go broody regularly (still has it as instinct) and i am told that this breed would be good although i would want a variety that did not produce too many challenges for the backyard keeper.

Any thoughts on the subject

Most game fowl have very strong maternal instincts. However, they are generally lean in the body and can't manage larger clutches. Orpingtons, pekins or silkies would be my preference especially if trying to raise larger numbers of chicks.

A full sized game hen will easily cover a dozen eggs, I have some going for free, but probably live many miles away from you. Everyone live miles away from me.

pekins are "true bantams" meaning that there is no larger version -although there is an argument that says cochins are a larger version. Both are excellent broody hens. I have a cochin on 8 chicks will post piccies later! Silkie hens are one of the best broodies around and hens that are silkie crosses are excellent too although they are so frequently broody eggs can be a rarity! Silkies are both in bantam and large fowl.
