Has anyone got any advice about keeping foxes away without making your garden look like a fortress?
Ive heard all sorts before but id like somthing that doesnt require a load of wire mesh and posts!
Ive seen fox repellers sonic ones that give of a sound to keep them away - expensive but reliable?

Thanks for looking and any replies

There are all sorts of methods that are tripped out as suggestions for keeping foxes at bay, some of them have an element of common sense about them, whilst others havent a cat in ells chance of keeping your chickens safe but the one thing about them all that can be guarenteed, is that none of them can be 100% guarenteed. This goes for the urine idea ( why water it ? ) human hair, ultra sound devices and even dogs.
The only way to fox proof any area, comes in an expensive form, thats to put a high fence around the your garden, in conjunction with an electric fence. Even this isn't 100% , because sods law says that the first time you forget to switch it on, the fox will be either up and over or under.

Foxes will run at a six foot fence and scrabble up it easily. If at all possible, you really need something at the top facing outwards to prevent this.

when I had some landscapers in to help last year I asked them if they needed to they could pee in the garden, and then added if you could go there, there and over there it would be great. They thought I was ever so slightly bonkers till I added why!

No it won't, all you will do is wound the animal and probably leave a piece of lead in the wound to allow in infection.  I don't like foxes but what you suggest is cruel.  If you are going to shoot them a full power rifle is needed but you'll open up a whole can of worms if you use that in a built up area.

I'm proud of being a responsible air gun user and comments like this get us a bad press.

Bodger's right ! nothing is absolutly fox proof (except the eglu run)

I have a FoxWatch (ultrasonic device) and I believe it has kept our local fox out of my garden, it goes through the nighbours instead.  But you can never say never.

We spotted a fox a couple of days ago trotting away with a mouthful of somethign and we are now rather nervous.

There are a lot of easy pickings next door so we hope it'll go for the less complicated options.

Either a totally enclosed pen or a properly designed, erected and maintained electric fence is required. I've had EF for some years now without an incident.
