Dwarf Comfrey
« on: March 30, 2008, 21:46 »
Watched one of the Digging for Victory programmes over the weekend and one of the plot holders said she planted dwarf comfrey under her raspberries and it was excellent at preventing weed growth.  Anyone any experience with this and where i can get it?

Thanks

I saw that on the programme too, it has gorgeous flowers  :D
There's some on this link
http://www.buywildflowers.co.uk/

Comfrey, Dwarf Symphytum ibericum grandflorium
Low growing variety of comfrey with white flowers in spring. It is a good ground cover plant that spreads 3ft (1m). The dwarf comfrey contains very little potassium so is not suitable for liquid manure.HP £1.50[/B]

The plants soon establish themselves and then once they're big enough you can divide them. I plant mine by my compost bins so you can just take the leaves off and add them to the bins.  I have a comfrey pipe too which is like a comfrey distillery and you add water to it to dilute it then feed your plant with it

Comfrey Pipe!!!

I had a sudden vision of an illegal comfrey den full of seedy people lighting up and the police about to raid it!!!

I'm obviously far too tired and hungry and spending way too much time here!!

nah it's a contraption that you stuff comfrey leaves into and press them down and the liquid drips out into a container underneath.  You then dilute it til the colour of weak tea and water your plants with it
