Tomato seeds gone rotten?
« on: March 27, 2008, 16:02 »
Hi all,

I planted my tomato seeds a couple of weeks ago, but have had no sign of anything yet. I think I may have overwatered,  and put the seed too deep. Would the seeds have rotted, and would I have totally ruined them? If so I would be so disappointed as I was trying to grow some unusual tomatoes from the Real Seed Company, and was especially excited about the ones that are lots of little toms in on big one.
Doh!!

i have a look in the compost if mine take a long time to check their progress. if you are careful you shouldn't damage them.

Where have you got them ??  Perhaps a bit more heat to speed things along?   :?

... recently I sowed basil but left it outi n the unheated g/h, no sign for a week, brought it in to sit on the fish tank and up it came the next day !!  :D

It is very unlikely for tomato seeds to have gone rotten, either or both advised, keep them a bit warmer and if no joy , scrape some compost away gently, they might be too deep.

Mine are in the kitchen, sowed them about 12 days ago and the first seedling only appeared yesterday, so yours should appear any day now at a guess.

I am trying a few from there this year including Latah (Super-early Salad type) aand their gardeners delight all have become lovely little plants at the moment and so far had 100% germination with the toms.  one or two of the peppers failed to come through but thats me being too inpatient I expect

:D I used Westland seed compost, watered it, then put the seeds on top (in plastice modules 2 inches square) then covered the seed with fine vermiculite, put them in the propergater and they came up in 5 days. Then straight into the cold frame before they got too leggy. Every singlr one germinated, Supersweet 100 and Black Krim.
Any one grown Black Krim before, comes from Crimea I think? :?
