alot of places say they dont mix, and are best kept on their own.

but before mr foxy came for tea, i had a silkie in with all mine and she was absolutely fine.

they do go broody at the drop of a hat, so dont expect a reliable supply of eggs. but they are so pretty and fluffy. i will be putting another one in with mine this year.

and girls are always right so just do as your sister says

Just add a little extra seasoning in with the caserole and the  blend of the two should be divine.

Hoping for a natural hatch instead of incubator  :D

I have three silkies and they are mixed with Polish, araucana and two mixed breed hens and they all get on well.  So much so that the silkies are the top hens in both pens.  :D     Just remembered I use to have a sussex in there too at one time with no problems.

Apart from silkies being all cute and fluffy I like them as mine seem to lay just about continuously through winter whilst the others have a break so I still have a supply of eggs.  Then come summer the silkies go broody and the other hens lay works a treat for me.  :D
40 hens, 8 cockerels, 3 dogs, 2 rabbits, 8 chinchillas, 2 teenage daughters and O/H

Naturesparadise...go for it. Silkies are adorable and mine too provide eggs all year and go broody at the drop of a hat. They make pretty crosses too although they might not be fluffy if you cross them!

Good luck!

Judi
