how do you grow sweet potatoes?

Is it possible to grow sweet potatoes in our allotment in Essex? If so, any ideas of how to get started.

I believe the best way is to order some slips from a reputable company. There was something about it in a recent Kitchen Garden magazine as well.

Thanks green owl, after looking at the link, I think it might be too much for this year, as its my first. I'll just stick to ordinary spuds. Maybe next year.l
