Laying has begun!

My peahen/s have started to lay! Trouble is one is in her first year and has dropped 2 eggs from the perch!! The older female has made 2 nests...I'm totally confused as she goes to turn the eggs in both nests! I've swapped the eggs in the dodgiest nest for crock eggs...which she turns each day!! The couple living free haven't started yet...think they've all on just roosting at night in this aweful weather! They've taken to roosting on the electricity cables to the house and watching them swaying is a sight to be seen! :shock: Poor things...there are lots of sheltered places but they prefer to be high up with a 360 degree view! Then they spend most of the day relaxing on the window sills out of the weather!

It will be a while yet as last year the hen layed 17 eggs before she starting sitting...then its nearly 5 weeks brooding but...they're sooo cute when they hatch! Watching the peahen encouraging the tiny fluffy bundles up to roost after just a few days is fascinating...their little cries when they can't reach her are sad but they make it eventually!

I have 4 broodies now :shock: DON'T TELL OH

Martha is on 6 duck eggies as we know, Shirley is now sitting on Poland and Silkie eggies and Gemini and Wynona are on a mixture

I am coming to Uk next week so that will help counting down go quicker and then 1 more week and we should have chicks
