Sexing 4 week old chicks - place your bets....

Ok - here are our three lavender araucana chicks age four weeks. One has a very noticably different comb - larger and bright red. We are thinking he is a boy and the other two are probably girls as they have much smaller paler combs. Their behaviour is also very different - 'boy' was standng up to the camera, 'girls' crouch and run. 'Boy' struts about and girls scratch and forage in the litter. Are we just seeing what we want to see???

It's definitely more red and pronounced than the other 2 isn't it? They are loveley, I'd love some aracauna's!!!

I'm glad i'm not imagining it! Only time will tell i suppose but a trio would be fab - then you could have some hatching eggs!

I would say you have a trio, their behaviour is a good sign of their sex

If one is bolder, it's probably a cockerel...although we did have a little shy one pretend to be a girl but you have spotted other differences too! They look cute, post piccies as they grow!

The 'boy's' comb is even bigger and getting bumpier today. It is amazing how quickly they change isnt it?!! They'll be going out soon - although may be delayed by the awful weather - or move them to a halfway house to harden them off
