One of our silkie eggs chick died in its shell too - without even trying to get out. Poor mite - I suppose it is better than going through the struggle of getting out, only to die from whatever must have been wrong with it after.

Flower didnt want to know until day 2 1/2 but the little one born last night was eating at lunch time with her mummy so you just cant tell
