ok , we still getting soft eggs, girls are now being fed on layers pellets and mixed grain with oyster shell, they free range so are getting plenty of green stuff, really don't know what else to do, completely stumped, this has been going on for a while any ideas

Just read an article suggesting salt water can cause shell deterioration.

Also apparently lots of treats can mean more calcium is required.

Otherwise don't know. Must be very frustrating.

Depends if they're amberlinks or not ! :wink:

wondered if there might be some salty water they have acces to.
I like to explore the remote possibilities !

put some oyster shell in a strong bag ( or use a blender but dont tell aggy ) and hit it with a hammer now mix it with some soaked layers pellets  and feed the birds ,,,,,,, also check they have GRIT of the right size to be able to crush this stuff up :wink:

They hhave plenty of grit as they free range in the field and garden where ever they please!!!  Right will have to try mixing oyster shell in wet pellets. Poor girls they sit on the soft egg and it bursts.  If i time it right i can sometimes grab before they sit, Have stopped letting them into the field early as well so they have to eat pellets etc.  Its driving me mad

Apparently a shock can make them lay a softy. But only for a day or so.

So no sneaking up and going 'BOOO!!'  :roll:
