heres what ive been up to today....still havent put the gravel down between the beds as its not coming til monday....never mind.

I filled my raised beds and also got round to finishing my planter off for the greenhouse...using the spare bits of raised bed wood, some old floorboards that i took up out of the bathroom and some old compost bags to line it with.

- rhubarb poking through

right off to watch the rugby, see ya later!
It's Chilli up North.

That looks brilliant.
It has been far too cold and wet to even get out the door here. Oh well OH has at least made concrete floors for my greenhouses so something is starting.

What a wonderful allotment plot you have, its very neat, tidy and well planned. I would love to have raised beds but my beds are far to big.

So what plans do you have for planting?

thanks glen, ive got spuds, carrots, beetroot, sweetcorn and onions (off the top of my head) for the raised beds then for the greenhouse stuff im used to growing - chillis, toms, cucumber, courgette, lettuce etc then ive got strawbs in the cold frame and some space for raddish and lettuce

not sure what im going to put in the planter yet....someone suggested a fig tree...by which im very tempted but open to suggestions.

Well done Moggy. I like your raised beds, thats next years plan for me. Would just be happy to put some seeds in the ground but am going to err on the side of caution and wait a week or so as I am a bit of a novice at growing veg.

Mind you I have bought a rhubarb that is madly sprouting leaves, will stick it in the ground tomorrow and hope for the best.

i wanted to use thicker boards but the budget wouldnt allow it so i might well replace them in a year or two.

Hi  if you have any old potting compost bags cut the down the sides and put on the path before the gravel goes down  :?  :? keeps out the weeds

I'm cutting up used plastic feed bags as a base for my gravel paths.

I have loads of weed membrane as well, but they last only 5 yrs or so - not the best under a gravel path. The heavier duty plastic feed bags will last many years under gravel. Membrane works best on surface areas where you can see and replace it as needed.

wow - seriously impressive stuff. May be next year for me too I think. Dan and I proudly dug three small quasi-raised beds against our garden wall this autumn all prepared for planting this spring... 1m wide by 1.5m long, with little paths between them. sadly somehow they just look like three small burial mounds   - if I could work out how to post a photo Iyou would see what I mean ...

We didn't realise how important it is to bear this in mind when deciding the length/width ratios! Be warned. We'll live with them this year but if the neighbours call the police I won't be surprised..
