Raising from fertile eggs
« on: March 14, 2008, 15:53 »
Last year I bough some fertile pekin eggs to see under one of mine who was broody. None hatched. I think one mistake was I got too many (6) and the poor bird couldnt sit them all.

Personally I would stew the two old girls we have and get some babes in, but the family wont allow that. I have read many horror stories about introducing new birds to a flock (2?) so fertile eggs seems best.

So my question is before I have another go this year, what can I do to improve my chances of success.

And any good places to buy near Hull or that will do a reliable mail order?

Best thing is to get as fresh as possible and from a reputable breeder. Look at the sticky "fertile egg pool" you will find some eggs here! I will have some soon - thats if you like Salmon Faverolles! But beware hatching means cockerels and not everyone appreciates them!
Bigfoot is now with his own girls and he is deadchuffed with his harem - couldn't wait to carry them over the threshold of their new house!
