Hello everybody

Myself and my partner have just taken on our first plot and after clearing the 6 foot brambles  raising it to bare earth we are now ready to start planning and digging the beds.

The plot is 114 foot by 20 foot and runs north south .We plan on having 3-4 beds for rotation crops,   a fruit cage, herbs, asparagus and rubbarb  .  

I have read about lazy beds (raised but without the wood) but dont know wether to havE them run E-W or N-S or not bother .

All input will be great as I realy dont want to have to dig new beds next year

I'm sorry, I'm going to be a disappointing bogger.  :roll:  

I think, lazy beds are so termed as using a no-dig system, either raised or not but this is normally well prepared in advance with a lot of sweat, I'm afraid, of double digging and /or changing, improving soil. The wood bit is just an extra labour of love.

Planting usually would run N-S, so plants don't shade each other much.
