What are these weeds?
« on: March 06, 2008, 18:02 »
Hello,

I have been digging my plot over and I am finding lots of these weed roots.

I describe them as looking similar to a parsnip but not as thick, also they snap (and I assume multiply when this happens :? ) very easily and make a crispy snapping noise.

I am concerned as there seem to be so many that it is going to spoil my grow. What are they and is there anything I can do about it?

if they have a white milky sap they are most likely to be dandy lions

Yeah - sounds like dandelions to me....
Interestingly enough the name originates from the French "Dant de Lion" which translates to "Lions Teeth" ( as in, the shape of the leaves )
Keep an eye out for tomorrows useless info  :)

They are between 5 and 15 MM in diameter, they are hollow inside.
Slightly worried that no one knows what they are, I know they grow into large dominant weeds thats for sure.  :(

They're almost certainly the legs off some form of alien insect life which landed in your plot recently. They'll invade your brain and suck the life force out at midnight.

Or a weed.

Dunno.

Thank you.

My weed knowledge is very limited. I only know what I've dug out so far.

Always good to learn something new. Our veg plot has been left for about 2 years since the previous owner died and it was absolutely overgrown with parsnips. I pulled out hundreds of all sizes. Kept a few but threw the rest. Also a fair bit of couch I think which I've picked out with a fork carefully.

All the thick white roots seem to be a nightmare.
