Right I have just taken delivery of 30 asparagus plants, they are bare rooted and the question is, should I get them in the ground tomorrow am before work???

It's always good to get plants in the ground asap, but if it's too much of a push for you, you can wrap the roots with an old, damp (not soggy) towel, place them in a plastic bag which you tie up to hold the moisture. They don't like direct water for too long, so the towel will keep them hydrated without rotting. Definitely aim for the weekend to plant them out.

Because you're planting new crowns, I'd fleece them this year so they don't suffer any dieback. For best results, be sure to dig a good sized trench for them, mound some sand for the crown to sit on for good drainage, then fill with good humusy soil and water (if it doesn't rain). Crown tops should be about an inch or two below the surface.
