Greenhouse worries!
« on: March 02, 2008, 19:02 »
I was kindly given a greenhouse a few weeks ago, and have never grown anything much before now.

At the moment it's got broad beans, sage and celeriac in it, in paper pots, waiting to go outside in a few weeks.

The thing i was wondering was.. i want to grow tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, chillies, and maybe try my hand at aubergines and melons in it

But it's set on a concrete hardstanding, so i can't dig any beds into it  :(

How would i go about growing things in it without beds?  :? Would gro-bags do the job? Or huge pots? I have no idea where to start!

You wrote your own answer.  Grow bags and pots of all sizes, no problem at all that's what I use.

yep, growbags and pots and tubs. Try hanging tubs for things that arnt too heavy to hang down,

and put some guttering on it and a water butt. It will save losing the rain that hits its roof and you have a instant supply for watering inside :D

Zac's absolutely right about the guttering.  Rainwater is much better for your plants than tap and it's free.  Buy a book, Google or ask a thousand questions on here. :)

... and don't put sage and celeriac out within a few weeks, wherever you are.  Please tell though, it helps a lot with answers.

I tend to use the big pots that you get from florists to grow my toms, chillis and cucumbers in. other plot holders use grow bags but they use a collar to give the growbag extra height.
