Fixed some new guttering onto a small shed and repaired existing guttering on greenhouse.  Replaced the felt roofing on the big shed, not a fun job in the cold :-)

Just twice daily visits to the chickens at the moment, although it might be nice in the tunnel, I’ve got stuck into sorting & moving the home made preserves to a new location, so there’s stuff everywhere here at home
A woman's place is in her garden.

Got lucky with a break in the wind & the rain when I went to the chickens this morning, so I collected the woodchips that the council guys chipped yesterday, they cleared John’s plot of abandoned tree branches that a contractor from a neighbouring garden had dumped 3 weeks ago! They chipped it and left it at the top of the site and since I needed some to top up the chicken pen & some paths I’ve cleared it all. Not feeling guilty as I have been organising drop offs of woodchips for two years to be delivered & I oversee them doing so by letting them in etc. I make it available for everyone else.  :D

I remembered where my plot was

The sun was out, it wasn't too cold or windy, so I went down to do some hacking of brambles and old raspberry canes. I have some builders-type bags (70cm rather than 1m square, so I can lift them!) and filled one up. Took it to the tip's green waste.

Will sow some leek seeds soon.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Hadn’t planned on going to the allotment but it wasn’t raining so had a wonder down to check on things. Put the grease band around the apple tree in the hope I might get at least one apple without a hole in it this year. Dug up a parsnip and a hand full of carrots. I’ve really enjoyed having some veg over winter this year. The stews have tasted much better for it. Weeded and covered the now empty carrot bed. Oh and finally planted the bag of discounted daffodils and crocus I’d been carrying around in the car boot for weeks. I’ve planted them at the very front of the allotment to greet me when I arrive.

Took a couple of bags of manure to the plot earlier in the week ready to prepare bean bed and feed asparagus. Just put some broad bean seeds into a pot now as the ground is much too wet to sow seeds. Hopefully we will get some drier weather soon.
Good luck all
Cheers HH
Keep digging

In the shed this afternoon at home I sowed some tomatoes, chillies, sweet peppers and some aubergines. They’re now resting in the airing cupboard

Lovely sunshine here in Hampshire today.
Delighted to successfully burn my asparagus stems from last year.
They have been “drying!!” for many weeks so this was a great relief.
Whilst my incinerator was hot I added some cut down raspberry canes too.
Happy to have started after the horrible wet weather.

At last, some sunshine! Celebrated by spending a couple of very happy hours catching up on some of the plot jobs that have been on hold until the soil dried out a bit. I moved a couple of currant bushes to a raised bed that had spent the winter under black weed control - the soil was lovely and crumbly, plus full of earthworms.
Moved some strawberries from an overgrown bed to a new bigger bed. Gave the gooseberries a trim- they are starting to show leaf buds now so fingers crossed for gooseberry fool later in the year. Gave the compost heap a bit of a mix and cut some PSB for lunch. Happy days!  :D

Managed a brief visit to the plot this afternoon.
Dug a trench for my beans and filled it with a bag of manure.
Weeded my asparagus bed and added another bag of manure.
Soil starting to dry out at last.

Attempted a bit of digging at the allotment. It's finally starting to dry out a bit now

Hacked the buddleia down and started cutting down brambles and raspberry canes. Too wet to dig yet, I think.

Weeding, sorting out the compost bins, filling raised beds, general tidying and flattening some paths

And just like that two hours have passed.

Harvested some purple sprouting broccoli.
Spread manure on another bed.
Covered a couple more beds with black plastic to warm them up.
Sowed some beetroot at home in the conservatory.
Tempted to plant some spuds but the forecast doesn’t look good for the next few days.
