Arran pilot spud shortage?
« on: January 30, 2025, 18:21 »
Can't seem to find any Arran Pilot from my usual seed spud suppliers. Anyone else with my problem?

I don't know about this variety specifically, but there were certainly shortages from a poorer crop last year.

We had to place our allotment association seed order earlier than usual, owing to a message from our suppliers that some varieties had already run out of pre-booked stock.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

The number of varieties on offer at our local potato day is much reduced too.
No Pink Fir Apple at all.
I've not been able to find Ambo anywhere.

Exactly the same here.  :(
I couldn't find Ambo last year either so wonder if that's the end of it....

I ordered mine from Kings a while ago. Got the onion sets already, just hope the spuds turn up.

Arran Pilot is on the Bridgend Garden centre site but notes that their suppliers have managed to find some and are due in week of 3rd Feb.. I've got my seed spuds from them for years, always very good value and an excellent range although that has declined since 2019! They also have Anya, a cross between Desiree and Pink Fir. Ambo is a Irish-bred variety and I've found that several others, including my favourite Maxine (also Irish) are no longer available. Another Brexit negative. My order from early November, along with onion sets, arrived about 10 days ago.

They ae a great company-I've used them quite a bit before I discovered our local potato day. Like you I'm a fan of Ambo and mourning its loss.
