I find onion seed to be more temperamental than parsnip, particularly if older! Also I've got the opposite of you: all my red onion seed (Redspark) has germinated but nothing yet from my 'white' seed variety (Santero).

what i didnt mention we took half a dozen large Ailsa craig and replanted them last year letting them go to seed we collected lots of seed these germinating quicker and more than bought seed i think how fresh the seed is has a lot to do with germination   how old is the seed we buy??.
