A gardener of habit, I always grow Defender F1 in containers. This year I have not been impressed and wonder whether I should try a new variety. Has any one got a variety that they can recommend for container growing?

I find 'black beauty' is a very prolific variety, fast growing and plenty of courgettes!

For a yellow variety, Early Prolific Straightneck. Great taste and texture, they produce heavily. They can be allowed to grow a bit larger than other varieties and still remain tender.

Soleil F1 (Yellow) and Black Beauty (Green) have produced well for me for a few years. Pollination has been a problem this year due to the lack of bees and insects! Hand pollination worked though.

Another vote for Black Beauty.  I'm growing mine in the ground, but I gave a couple of plants to a friend who is growing them in containers, and she's doing well with them.

I have grown Verde de Italia from Real Seeds the past 2 years and very pleased with it - shrugged off slug attacks, prolific, excellent flavour.

I have grown this variety too in the past and have been very pleased with it.  The last few years I have grown Romanesco and found that to be equally as good and a bit more widely available.
