Anyone know about Allen Scythes?
« on: July 18, 2024, 20:53 »
I’m hoping to pick up an Allen Scythe, but I don’t think it will fit in my Vauxhall Combo (70″ load length, I think the Allen Scythe is 6′ 3″).

Is it (or should it be…) a reasonably easy job to get the handles off?

I guess that it might be possible to remove the cutting bar, but I’m unsure how much space that would give. Might another possibility be to lie it on its side (would any oil that might be in it run out)?

Got it. Itr didn't fit in, so tipped it over with some timber blocks under the horizontal wheel, high enough so that the cutter bar end did not push into the floor, strapped it up and came home with the handles poking out of the offside rear door. Success! Also a very oily van floor.

Next, look at the engine, sort out the cutter bar. Might need some spares by the look.
