Who got my peas?

Hello,
New gardener here, got a plot last year covered in weeds. Im taking things slowly, little and often. My plot is my gym and my psychiatrist. 

Earlier this year I sowed some peas and mangetout indoors which I then transfered to the ground next to a climbing frame I very proudly built. They were constantly attacked by some animal and never grew taller than one foot. They didnt die completely, they are still trying, but whatever it is, it seems to eat the buds and new leaves. Only one managed to surpass that height and that one thrived.
The runner beans I put down at the same time they survived better, they were not attacked, or attacked less.
I'm posting some pictures to see if someone knows what got to them, and some tips on how to prevent it.
