Ant hills on lawn.
« on: June 06, 2024, 17:54 »
I have a number of ant hills dotted around my lawn. I don't mean little uns!! These are big. Must hold trillions of inhabitants each. Trouble getting the lawn-mower around/over each. Is there a well tried and trusted effective ways and means of killing them. OK a bit drastic I know. But, moving them onto my neighbours lawn isn't the answer. Bought or homemade whatever. Any and all advice much appreciated. Thanks.

What about trying nematodes.  The Nemasys stuff has some decent reviews.

Yes, I've looked at this particular treatment. My understanding is that the resident ants do not like this parasite nearby and therefore move their nest away to another area. How far away? To my neighbour's lawn, to another area of my lawn or where? I'm really looking for a treatment which will destroy the ants. Thanks.

Probably the best option then is the type of ant bait you put in a station and they carry back to the nest.  Less messy and less danger to any other insects than the traditional powder.

This type of thing, but I haven’t shopped around for the best deal so worth looking around online for that.

Thanks. Yes this or something very similar looks like the best option to eradicate my infestation of ants. Thanks again.

Brush the excess soil into the surrounding grass area.
Could try clove oil, can be bought in chemist etc, used for toothache
