Has anyone got any foolproof methods for success? Tried everything (module planting, sowing loads direct, freezing seeds first). Very poor results- almosy nothing coming up. For one of my plot neighbours they self seed and she had millions with zero effort- what gives?

Do you mean the opium type poppy? I am like your neighbour they self seed very freely almost like a weed.
They have a tap root so move when little. Could you ask your neighbour maybe?

I really need to go to specksavers, I keep reading this as “Puppy” advice needed! 🤓
I did as greenjay suggested and got a few from my plot neighbour. Only one took but now it reappears perennially, so hope it will be happy enough to self seed in years to come.
I have had good success with just throwing packets of Welsh and Californian poppies onto bare ground but those are definitely annuals.

I have massive success with double tangerine poppies.
I use them as weed suppresents.
Pretty weed suppresents.
Trays seeds spread very thinly. Not sure if you cover them with soil.
The seeds are especially small so difficult to spread thinly.
Perennial.
Each head produces about 200 seeds in the second year. First year seed heads smaller.
