What tomatoes will you be growing this year?
« on: February 18, 2024, 20:50 »
I’ll be doing Black Russian, Costolutto fiorentino, Stupice as vine toms and sweet aperitif as a cherry Tom.
Last year I also did Estate and  Dr Carolyn but did not rate them for flavour so not doing them again.
Decided against crimson crush on the basis of lack of flavour, but will probably regret that if blight strikes again  unsure:

All of these in the greenhouse border, this year:
tall cherry toms, Sweet Aperitif and Cherry Baby, big fruited toms, Burlesque and plum tomato Bellandine.

Plus I always grow a couple of pots of Gartenperle on the bench, as my back up plan, I find them very reliable when sometimes others are a bit hit and miss, for whatever reason

Whatever the garden center gets in first, but I like buying different types, maybe one or two of whatever they get in
Sometimes they have a good asortment, sometimes just one or two
But I think it will be sometime to go, the ground is really waterlogged
It's all about the journey, not the destination

Cherry: Sungold, Cherry Brandywine, Latah, Green Zebra.

Beefstake: Rosella Purple, Purple Heart Throb, Green Giant, Uluru Ochre.

I also have Galina and Dr Carolyn from last year but I wasn't impressed so I don't think I'll bother again with those.

I have made my choice, but I always find it difficult, so it may alter again!

Black Cherry, Sungold, Auntie Madge, White Cherry for the cherry size, all in the polytunnel or greenhouse

Roma, Aurora, Scotland Yellow, Tigerella, Crimson Crush, Market King, Black Truffle, Banana Legs and Beauty King.   For standard ish sized tomatoes, bush ones outside

Sandul Moldovan and Black Sea Man for beefsteak varieties.

I agree about Dr Carolyn. I had high hopes but they were probably the blandest I grew last year. Anne B your range is impressive!

I've got some lovely strong 'Indigo Rose' seedlings/young plants in the greenhouse, plus some 'Sun Baby' and 'Tigrella' seedlings. I've yet to sow the 'Garden Pearl', 'Cuor de Bue' and 'Roma' seeds - so I'd best get a move on!

Just 3 varieties

In the salad greenhouse
Tamina 4 plants
Sweet Cherry 2 plants

In my Passata greenhouse

Amish Paste x9

Tamina and the Amish paste are heirloom so I keep the seeds and grow on next year.

I'm growing Friend's Surprise  :D

(A friend saved seeds from last year's tomatoes and has successfully resown them this year ...  )
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
