Poorly chook!
« on: February 25, 2008, 21:42 »
One of our new chooks has come down with a bad case of upset tum.  :( She has a dirty bottom and is doing green poo. We think it could be worms? Have ordered worming meds for her, hope they arrive tomorrow. Is worms likely to be the cause or something else? :?:  She's still scratching around OK but not quite herself. They have been consuming copius amounts of worms that we are digging up in the veggie patch, this can't hurt them can it? thought chucks lived on worms!!!! :?
Didn't like to shut her away on her own so she's still with the other three girls. Don't like having a poorly chuck, want to make her better quick, any ideas?

Thanks for spotting this one Wildeone.

It is quite possible that this chook has worms so treat her and all the other chooks for worms as soon as possible.

We have an information article here for you to learn more:

http://www.chat.allotment-garden.org/viewtopic.php?t=4348

Keep her botty clean, I would recommend a few drops of shampoo in some warm water.  If it is left dirty it could become a target for pecking.

If worming does not stop the problem she may benefit from a course of antibiotics from the vet.

Do let us know how she gets on  :D

Interested to read what you all say about worms. I feel my chooks would benefit froma dose of something. Could someone who lives my side of the Channel recommend a name for a wormer that I could use for my girls.
Thanks,
Mary.

I use something called Capizol. Check with vet first but should be right stuff

Would I be right in saying that Flubenvet is a poultry wormer but not sure if it needs a prescription ?

Unless France has difference licensing.

Hi Normandy Mary,

I use Flubenvet. Got it in UK but it lasts for ages.

Thanks, have ordered some flubenvet from one of your links, not arrived today, hopefully tomorrow. Will wash her bottom and let you know how she gets on. Will also read the link on worms,  :?

Is it 'normal' to see worms in the pooh when you've wormed the hens?
I have just done the routine Flubenvet in the food and am seeing some odd poohs - almost looks like undigested corn husks in a browny pooh.
(Hope nobody is in the middle of lunch  )
Could it be one of my new girls?

Like with dogs, when you worm them perhaps seeing them come out in the poo is normal. Better out than in you would think :?
