Burshy crimson tomatoes
« on: July 01, 2023, 13:40 »
Both my crimson crush and crimson beefsteak tomato plants are extremely bushy with the leaves and stalks bowing down and touching the soil. I know they always do this but am I permitted to trim off some of the lower leaves and/or stalks?

Yeah I'd trim anything that touches the soil. You will probably need to support the plant as well, when I grow crimson crush outside I let it grow as a bush, but remove the lowest three or four sideshoots. I also have a good stake next to it to secure it to. It doesnt get very high for me, maybe 4ft at most. You can support trusses by tying them up to a higher leaf, I use ribbon as its nice and wide so doesn't dig into the plant.

Mind you because I've  had such terrible weather over the last few weeks now they have ground to a halt outside

Thanks a lot, Snow. I do have stakes next to them. A good idea about tying trusses to a higher leaf. Thanks.
