Pea flowers.

Pea flowers.

Having got my pea plants in early, they are now a 4ft tall mass of jungle. But so far there is no sign of flowering happening. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or something to be concerned about.

Mine were sown at the end of Feb and are 18” high and just starting to flower. Taller varieties may take a little longer, but I’m sure they’ll be in flower within a couple of weeks.

Lack of flowering sometimes means insufficient light.  Has it been overcast more than usual?
Sometimes peas won't flower if it is too hot (unlikely for you) or too cold, or if the soil is too rich in nitrogen.

Some varieties do grow taller, which means they will flower later, because they simply spend more time growing. Which variety are you growing?
You just need to be patient.....

After reading good reports of them here on our website, I decided to grow Alderman, which as I recall are indeed a tall plant. I also put them in well manured  ground, so subversives idea of too much nitrogen might come into play......but as always, I suppose just waiting a bit longer could see things turn around. Hope so anyway.

we grow alderman they take longer to flower when they are about 5-6ft tall then you will get pods lower aswell unlike say tomatoes that flower as they grow alderman seem to do most of there growing first i cant remember about other peas as we only grow these now they seem to be very heavy cropping for us  good luck.

Mine have been in flower for a couple of weeks. Fingers crossed yours will flower soon.
