Anyone put out frost sensitive plants yet??
« on: May 15, 2023, 15:50 »
Hi All
I’m wondering about when to put out my tomatoes, french beans, courgettes and sweetcorn.
Has anyone put their plants yet?
Weather seems warm here in Hampshire with little chance of a bad frost.
Thanks in advance HH
Keep digging

Our toms went out last week, but some flowers are begging to be let out as well, so it's the usual risk...

Luckily, beans are only just emerging, so plenty of time yet!

Bullet-biting time I'm afraid...

Not yet, but I am going to put beans out this week if they get big enough.  I was late sowing all this sort of stuff, so they have a bit of catching up to do, plus I know I can replace the beans quickly if the worse happens.

I have got greenhouse stuff ready to pot on into their final homes and will be starting that tomorrow.

Just put 4 courgette out in a sort of cold frame at the allotment, but still got about half a dozen in the greenhouse along with the other tender stuff as it’s not bursting out of it’s pots yet.

One courgette only but I do have a back up. Thinking I won't need it now as temperatures look stable and the plant is looking beyond stage the slugs are interested in.

Plan to put French beans and some cosmos out next weekend.

Everything is a bit slow so not sure if anything else will be ready for another week or two.

I have put the runners and some of the climbing French Beans out.  The forecast looks okay at the moment.
Fleece at the ready if it changes.
Squash, courgettes, sweetcorn, rest of the beans, outdoor tomatoes and cucumbers remain in the greenhouse.

Nothing yet
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I planted my toms in the greenhouse the other day but not got the sweet corn in until I make a door curtain because the flying rats strip the leaves off! Bedding plants hardening off nicely outside including begonias and lobelia so keeping everything crossed!
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

I only sow french/runner beans from now inside, will plant them outside in a couple of weeks. Sweetcorn has been in the greenhous for a week or so, will plant them this week with all squash and all under fleece for a couple of weeks. Toms have been in greenhouse for a couple of weeks, will plant the outside ones out this weekend. Chillis getting rootbound, so need to put them jn their final pots in the allotment this week. Hopefully they won't suffer too bad. Just sowed the outdoor cucumbers in pots inside
