All settled in!!!!
« on: February 23, 2008, 18:20 »
Hello Everyone.

Babe dropped me home at about 3pm and i've been settling in my ladies!!!

Opened the boxes straight onto the lawn and 3 of them huddled together looking a little terrified.  But one was straight out nosing into everything so we've decided to call her 'Mrs Bennet'.  I put them into their new home's run and they stood still for about 30 mins looking a little shocked.  they're very happy to be handled and hubby melted straight away and was fussing over them like a new dad.  What feathers they do have are really soft (i didn't expect that).

I sat by the window giving them some space to settle but just had to go back out there armed with a few grapes!  The baldest one just loved that and even took it straight from my hand...... one headed for the coop and straight onto the roosting bar at about 4.30pm and didn't come back out (i hope she's ok).

At about 5pm they got very brave and pecked around rosey and eating loads. It's getting really cold now tho' so i've just put them in their coop and locked up for the night.

My first day over as a chicken owner - bliss

1 x hubby
2 x daughters
3 x chickens
1 x bunny
6 x african snails  . . . . . and counting.

They look lovely, and beleive me it wont take long to get them looking really healthy. My 4 that I have had about 4 weeks now, look totally different. New feathers, proper bums no scabs, will post piccies soon befores and afters. Also they are the first when I go in to feed them. Good luck and enjoy!
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most!!

Another happy ending! So great to think that they can now be normal chickens not just egg layers. Grapes as well...a woman after my own heart! My girls just adore grapes but not getting many at the moment as they're dead expensive here now but soon they'll come down and they can pig-out on them!!

Do post photos as they settle although they already look delightful! Feel sure you'll just love having them...beware though they are great time-wasters...always something interesting going on in the henrun!!

Well done,

Judi

aw they look so happy WO!  glad you're so pleased with them, I'm sure they'll settle down in that REALLY EXPENSIVE looking coop!

Jellyheads right - they'll feather up in no time; you won't recognise these pics when you look back in a month or two  :D
