Sour milk...best for pancakes. If the milk had gone off my Dad used to say "Theres ducks on the pond" when looking at his tea.
As a going away present from HMtQ I sailed across "The Pond" on board "Lord Trenchard" and we called in at the Azores to stock up on vittles. We bought 'long life' milk in sachets from the PX and stowed them in the bilge, when the time came to break out the milk we found the schets were drum tight! Long Life my arris!
We very carefully carried them to the side and slung them overboard, I swear they were exploding on hitting the water. We had a cook on board who told us to safe a couple for pancakes and very good they were.
As we approached Chesapeake Bay and Annapolis we callet customs/border service and when telling them that this is Lord Tenchard, the reply was "Gee, am I speaking to a REAL Lord"?!
Lord Trenchard later blew up in harbour due to a gas leak taking a chaps leg with it.
Cheers, Tony. More sandbag stories if you want!
