Weeds, and yet more weeds
« on: November 11, 2022, 12:30 »
What do people use to kill off weeds on a path and drive way?

I have tried a hot gun (blow torch) round up weed killer, plus a couple of other brands

Even this kiln dried sand with a weed killer in it

But they still return, almost on a weekly basis

I dont think there is anything I havent tried to kill em off
It's all about the journey, not the destination

Our neighbour is now doing his block paving with a strong solution of bleach having asked someone nearby how they kept their paving immaculate, & they told him to do this. But I’m not very keen on following suit as think of all that bleach going into the water course every month, as that’s how often they recommended applying it

yes, I tend to agree with you snowdrops bleach is not the best idea I use roundup and it seem to last quite a long time I mix my own roundup I don't buy the ready-mix stuff mixed to the correct dilution it worked on both our block pavers and on the allotment although I know annual weeds will return sometime so they get another dose  :D

Well, I use one of those brushes with wire bristles on the end. Does the job perfectly.

There is (or was) something called Pathclear which you applied with a sprinkler bar but not sure if it is available now. An alternative to bleach there is a hypochlorite solution which my neighbour uses. Good idea to find out if it breaks down after application into something less harmless to the environment.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Sorry I wont use bleach, just think of that going down the drain then into a water way/stream
I'd hate too think I have killed any wildlife off
I dont use tap water for my bird bath/drinker (its a bit big they come in for a bath)
There is even wasps coming in for a drink (I know its a bit late for them, but they are there)
But I could do with some more rain
So far the blow torch has worked
But because of the mild weather I think they will be back, all too soon

This is a product for professional use only.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I looked for it, I found it, but decided against using it

How hard is it putting down a weed killer as long as you follow the instructions and wear glove and wash your hands afterwards

But this is a forum for amateur allotment gardeners, in the main. We ask people not to recommend professional use chemicals for amateur use.

No I wouldn’t use it either, & I very rarely use any weed killer or other chemicals. I tend to just use elbow grease & a sharp tool

I use roundup have done for several years now to me it's the best way to get rid of perennial and other weeds I use what's best for me whatever anyone might say and the sprayers better on my back and saves me a lot of work weeding so everyone to their own basically I do my own thing ;)

I just use the round up spray bottles
If I was to use the back pack sprayer it wouldn’t use all the fluid in iyes round up is good but I still have weeds returning
But it doesn’t really work well if there is no sunlight and a bit chilly
