New to raspberries.
« on: September 11, 2022, 19:12 »
Good evening everyone,  This is early September 2022 and a friend has landed a defense contract abroad for a couple of years (lucky sod), and has asked me to look after his garden.  He has a strawberry patch, a rhubarb patch and a large patch of raspberries.  The first two I can manage but never having been a fruit gardener I'm looking for tips (or as my old Dad used to call them "Hints and Wrinkles").  Some stems are taller than me with smooth bark' and others are short with very very prickly stems, are they the same variety??

Over to you.  Cheers,  Tony. :)

You don't really need to know the exact name of the cultivar, just whether they are summer or autumn types (if you can't ask him, if they are all fruiting right now the odds are they are an autumn variety.)

For how to prune the two types, I can't do better than point you towards John's article in the main section of this website:

Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older
