Last year I grew morado red from the supermarket, it grew ok. Also an unnamed organic hardneck from spain , similarly ok. And doocot from the garlic farm up near Inverness which performed poorly. This year though Ive got named varieties from tamar organics. An early hardneck and two softnecks.
I like growing it as it is in place when otherwise there would be little there, also works great in the greenhouse, you can plant your summer crops next to them as they finish or in the case of outside i sow my maincrop carrots between them in june. They also transplant well if your ground gets waterlogged over winter and are immensely hardy
