Fanging carrots.

Having grown carrots successfully in my greenhouse last year as a trial thing, I sowed some seeds in a tall raised bed that had been dug the year before then just added mushroom compost on top in early spring. They took ages to germinate then when we pulled some up they had fanged. Maybe I should have made my seed furrow a bit deeper?
