« on: July 17, 2022, 10:59 »
HI People,

Can I get all you suggestions on the best soil/compost/brands for seed starting off.  As the brands I brought this year were totally shocking once sieved got less then half the bag to use and multiple sowings failed.  Looking at getting prepared for next year.

Thanks
Dan
Dear God, Please can you stop the wind and rain and bring on the nice weather. Amen

Having had the same problems with a peat-free load of rubbish I got some Sylvagrow and like it a lot.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

I used to use Clover and it is a very good compost.
However I made the decision to avoid peat composts for environmental reasons.
I have now switched to Sylvagrow and can recommend it.  It is as good as the Clover.
It is a bit more expensive, but less destructive of our planet.
I live not too far from an RHS garden and they have had a special offer recently of 4 50 litre bags for £24, which I thought was very good value.

I use Westland John Innes no. 1 and no complaints here. Pay about 6 quid for 50l which goes a long way in modules.

Needs to be quite fine and loamy - MPC generally no good and peat free MPC especially bad.
