How very sad & awful for your neighbour & family & friends. Sadly there have been news coverage of this type of incident quite a bit recently
The NHS in general has become ridiculously overly bloated and overly complex. I'm of the opinion anyone not covered in a bodily fluid by the end of the day needs to have their position reviewed. Too many people with clipboards doing busy work or having meetings to talk about doing busy work whilst accruing pension years - the pyramid is upside down.
And it has been so for a rather long time.
I finished my career with 12 years in the NHS, loved the job I was interviewed & employed to do, but the last couple of years before I was able to take early retirement was a joke, every week we had different directives to tell us how to do this, that or the other. I was a client facing practitioner (fancy name for seeing patients) but better than the non qualified nurse that appeared on my payslips at one point!! I was heard to say on more than one occasion
they’ll only be happy when we don’t actually see anyone (this was pre covid) didn’t realise it was a prophecy that was to come true for many staff& patients.
As for the pyramid standing on its point it was known & talked about when I started & that was nearly 20years ago as I’m sure anyone who’s ever worked for the NHS can attest.
On the other hand, when it works well it is brilliant but it misused by as many patients & staff. Just because it is “free” ( it isn’t we all know we pay for it) it gets abused and people who don’t try to keep themselves healthy have a lot to answer for, & don’t get me started on ‘accidents’ whilst drunk!
