Anya seed potatoes
« on: March 16, 2022, 17:46 »
Been trying to get hold of some Anya seed potatoes, but without success.

Anybody know where I can get some?

Failing that, any recommendations for something similar?

Hoper you can help. Cheers.

No Anya but one of Anya's parents was Pink Fir Apple, if that's any help?

Have seen some notices around that the main suppliers for the Anya had problems this year and they never made it to the stores.

They are mostly quoting this;
08/12/21.  Unfortunately, we have just been advised by our supplier that the crop of the second early potato variety Anya, is not being released by the renowned grower and packer Albert Bartlett for the entire horticultural sector and we are no longer able to supply this variety to you for the remainder of this season. This is a big disappointment to us at this late stage of preparation and almost at the time we are to start despatching seed potatoes to you.

As above, give Pink Fir Apple a try, a similar type.
Its a staple of mine after a few years of growing.
Its been a very productive crop for me, grown in bags.
The bags were filled nicely, I reached down a few times a week, every week from mid July to late October and pulled up a good 20-30 each time.

Hey thanks for the advice and info about seed not being released. This would explain why I couldn't find any!

I've just been out today and got some Jazzy seed potatoes from our local branch of Dobbies at Barlborough. Grew Pink Fir Apple many moons ago, but fancied something a little easier to prepare. We'll see how it goes.

The annoying thing is that Sainsbury's (the only supermarket outlet that stocks Anya) had them on sale until fairly recently as eating potatoes. Could have tried planting these at John did, according to his excellent e-booklet. Recommend this for all potato enthusiasts.
