personally i`d chop the root off to the edge of the bed , wont kill the tree but will stop it nicking all the moisture.
u got carrots under the cloche?
and how did u attach it to the wood - staples?

This is our next job, the root comes in to the bed just where we stopped digging.

Yep, Carrots are in and have just started to shoot today. Hope to get a pic to post tomorrow if i get 5 mins of dry weather to pop to the lottie.

To build the cloche we used 3x1 inch steaks and split them down the centre to 23 inches. We then treaded the thick plastic sheeting (also 23 inches high) down the centre and cable tied the top. Worked a treat!

I hope this explains it, i will take a close up pic tomorow for you! Probably easier than me trying to explain?

Here you go Rampant_Weasel, managed to get these snaps this morning before the heavens opened.

This shows one of the side steaks.

This shows the corner steak with the plastic simply wrapped around.

And for added side support these steaks were added.

Hope this helps?

Hi Glen, lookin real good.  If the polythene is to protect against carrot fly i think they will get underneath as you seem to have a gap, or maybe it is just the photo.

Hi Cawdor, I think its just the pic as we have burried the plastic in mounds on the inside and out.

So next job are to place some slabs in front of our shed and compost bin, collect manure from a friends stable and purchase some netting to protect our baby cabbages!

Is this never ending?

What a GREAT Day!!!
Wow where did all this sun come from?

Had a very productive day today. Collected 4 sacks of manure from my mates stables and delivered them to the plot. This enabled us to get a good base layer in the compost bin and the over fill with some of the soil we had dug from the beds.

While i had the stinky job, my FIL trimmed back the dead Raspberry stalks and constructed a frame to support them as they grow.

Also got stuck in to the 3rd bed which only has about 4 foot left to clear.

Fingers crossed the weather stays like it was today!

Another good day today at the plot. Put in another row of Lettuice and two rows of Spring Onions in Bed 2.

We also planted 24 Cabbage plants today under netting. We are hoping with this protection it will be 1-0 to Glen and Keith over Mr Pidgeon!!
