New rhubarb
« on: August 18, 2021, 12:49 »
Hi everyone first time i've message on here. I put 3 crowns in my plot it hadn't been grown on for nearly two years so rhubarb has gone mad but all the books say don't pick in the first year. Plants are over 3 feet high and leaves are over 24 inches wide on them. Any advice would be grateful as am new to growing as have already lost some crops so don't want to lose these plants. Thanks Wayne.

Welcome to the forum :)
The size of them, obviously means they are happy where they are. Just leave them to get on with it, and next year look forward to bumper pickings..

As mum says leave them alone til next year, keep well watered & put a nice thick mulch around it in tge autumn, but don’t cover the crown else it might rot.
