Growster, I hear your frustration, but not all solutions are black and white.
Chemicals sure have their place, but so do organic solutions (example, Aunty turning predators loose on her spider mites). The solution is a sensible middle ground. My son studies this at uni, it's called integrated pest management (or just IPM). Use organic controls if possible, stronger measures when you have to. This approach actually allows BOTH methods to work better. Use chemicals less often, and the diseases and pests are less likely to build up a tolerance. My son works in peach orchards, there is an amazing array of predators that will manage most of the pests as long as they have the right conditions (correct ground cover for example), can encourage tiger beetles, which are voracious predators on other insects; spraying would be counter-productive in such cases. But, might be needed at other times.
