Hi everyone! Sunchoke / Jerusalem Artichoke question for you:

I sowed 2 JA tubers in a container that's 43cm / 17 inches wide, and 50cm deep.

The greenery's just popping up out of the soil now and looks like I've got one tuber giving 3 plants (all 3 are growing 1cm apart from one another), and the second tuber giving 2 plants (also very close together). That's 5 plants in a pot size intended for 1-2 plants really. Should I cut away the extra plants for maximal chances of getting nice big tubers with good yields?

Thanks in advance for your help :)

JA's throw up multiple stems from each rhizome (same as spuds) so leave all that appear.

Thanks Blewit :)  I'll leave them be then.

Out of curiosity - do you know, is there a difference between a JA or potato plant that has one stem vs one that has lots of stems in terms of how many tubers they make, or the size of tubers they make?

In terms of numbers a couple of years ago I counted a 50 odd tuber yield from 4 seed tubers

That sounds like a lot! How much is normal from a 1 seed tuber? (sorry - total newbie here :D)

That's an impressive harvest Mr Dog. Good thing about growing JA's in containers is you can leave them in all winter and just dig them out as you want them.

Mine are confined to containers....

Although other than that one time I don't normally count them but I'd say that yield was typical.
