not quite rotted compost trenches
« on: April 04, 2021, 06:19 »
Hello
does anyone dig compost trenches for anything other than runners??
I'm asking because I turned out the compost from the dalek yesterday retrieved the decent stuff from the bottom and now have a load of not ready stuff to go back in the dalek again.
Normally I would have dug a trench and thrown it all in ready for the runners in a few months but currently our kale is still going and I dont want to lose our only source of home grown veg!
So I was wondering if anyone used it elsewhere?
I will be growing squash but not sure where I'll be squeezing it in yet.
Onions won't like the sogginess but Tomatoes or where I'll be putting the remainder of my broad beans when they are big enough????
All suggestions greatly appreciated

I make compost trenches for french beans, sweet corn, tomatoes and squash.  I grow these all together in an area I have fenced off to keep muntjac deer out and get really good results with this method.

I’d agree about the onions, but I am not sure about the broad beans.  I’ve never tried it, but I can’t see them being that upset over it.  They will do OK without it though, so tomatoes would be my choice  :)
