6X fertiliser as a plant feed?
« on: March 15, 2021, 21:29 »
Hey guys bought myself some 6X fertiliser down at the garden centre for the upcoming season. Has anyone used this before? And has anyone used it a feed during the season to boost plant growth?

I've seen a few ideas of mixing with a compost but wasn't sure if it might burn plants if applied straight in and around plants during their growth.

Cheers.

I add about a good handful/sq.yd dug in a week or so before planting out, put some around the rhubarb and the pumpkins, also make a 'liquid fertiliser' with it!
I reckon if you use it generously at the start of the season, you shouldn't need to add any more - except for the gross feeders like courgettes/squash/pumpkins which I make 'tea' for.

Brassicas and leeks like a dollop of it under their roots, as well.

It's fabulous stuff, and as Mum says, it makes a great liquid feed!

One tip though, don't use it in an enclosed space like a greenhouse, as the methane can take out the lot in just a few hours! Painful experience that...

Thanks for the tips and advice guys.

I've seen alot of people using blood fish and bone aswell, again is that the same principle of mixing in a couple of weeks before rather than during the growing season?

You can sprinkle BF&B around plants during the season, if they look a bit needy - just rake/hoe enough to mix it into the top layer and water it in, if it's dry.
