Year Round Cabbages?
« on: February 15, 2008, 23:43 »
To add to my ongoing list of things to grow this year.....I have bought some Savoy seeds as they are my favourite type of cabbage.

I would like to know if cabbages can be grown all year round and if so what type (I prefer dark green to white cabbage)?  :D

You can have cabbages virtually all year round by selecting spring, summer, winter and autumn harvesting types. Check the seed packets for the planting/harvesting dates.
Lynne.

So much to do, but so little time.

I'd looked in my local garden centre, who do a good choice of seeds, but they only seemed to cover autumn through to early spring!  :?

I'll have a look online and search out some more... I thought I had read somewhere that they were a year round veg.  :)

Chinese cabbage, the narrow 2 ft tall types are very sturdy cold winter growers. And they're sweet as well.

Look in a catalogue, might have to do with sowing times, ie, spring cabbage you should have sown last summer/autumn.
