When is the best time to start sweet peas?
« on: December 23, 2020, 08:13 »
I usually start in March but I believe it can be done earlier. I donít have a greenhouse but have a kind of out room at the back of my flat which is not heated ( so quite cold) and has a large window. Iíve noticed some people on the plot start early but not quite sure how they do it. Any tips? Thanks in advance.

Here. I find the best time for sowing is at the end of Jan/beginning of Feb. I sow mine in a cold greenhouse, so as long as your 'out room' has enough light you should be fine.
The last few years I've sown mine, 2 seeds at a time, in cutdown small water bottles  (saved years ago) They make nice long roots, in those   ;)
They don't like being soaking wet, but as usual, make sure they don't dry out completely.

That was a good question and answer.  I have some bottles laying around, would toilet rolls do as well.  I think I shall give them a try.  regards,  Mrs Bouquet

Hello scarify the seed first to let moisture in ,use a sheet of Emery paper folded with the seed in between and lightly rub the seed  jezza
