I think standard procedure with iffy bits you want to compost is drown them in a covered bucket of water (no light) till they rot a bit then its safe to add it to the heap.

As long as it is just the green tops, then yes - it's just grass cuttings.
If it has any roots, I leave it on the path to dry out (in this weather?  :lol:) before adding to heap/bin.

I agree with Mum.  Leafy tops are fine but make sure there are no roots.

I recall a story about an old time allotmenteer hanging some couch root on the chain link fence for months in hot weather till dried right out then replanting it to prove to a newbie that it would still grow .
Anecdotal i know but it is why i go for the wet method.

Thanks to much to drown so I’ll compost the tops turf stack the other and dig out as many as possible then drown them is a month long enough to drown them

I have never really timed it , just give it a stir (long stick or peg on nose) and if it looks beyond recovery it should be safe to bury or compost.
