Wartime preserves without sugar...

While we've made quite a bit of chutney and chilli jam this year, we've been mulling over what else we could save - there's not much now, but maybe for future years!

Then thinking about how we avoid sugar here at all costs, (except for a little fermenting purposes, well, enough for several gallons a pop, well more than that really, in fact, quite a lot more...), the conversation got round to what happened during WW2 with the severe shortages of sugar! How did all those jars get filled?
