RIP Rita
« on: February 14, 2008, 20:15 »
Rita looked a little off colour this morning and seemed to deteriorate throughout the day.  Took her to the vets & she had a large growth just inside breast bone.  Prognosis very poor.  So vet has put her down.

Rita will be missed - she turned out to be a popular chuck both at home and at the vets when we first got her.

She was just beginning to look like a proper hen and all her feathers had grown.

Oh well almost 6 months of the "good life", free ranging my garden, pity she couldn't have seen a little summer sun

So sorry, know how hard it is as we lost one a couple of weeks ago. I still find myself looking for her but, like others have said, our birds have the best life so just keep loving the others!

Big hugs,

Judi

Thanks folks.  It's funny how they all have there own little characters.  Rita after her problem with the prolapse, was very wary,  whilst the others stormed the house at the first opportunity, Rita would come running then hang back hovering just outside the door.

Later as her confidence in us built and she realised I wasn't going to stick my finger up her bits, was the first in the house & last to be shooed out again.  And that was no mean feat as i think my chucks are close relatives to road runner.

Eldest daughter (6), reckons we should get another friend for Polly (as Rita & Polly were often seen together, hovering at the back of what was happening) and fancies a brown Polly (a popcorn).
